Third Grade Happenings

It is conference time again! The school year is still going well in the Third grade. Our Class has grown to 23 students now. The kids are doing really well in a big bunch and enjoy being together.

Soon in Math we will be starting multiplication. This is skill that requires a lot of practice since it is mainly memorization of the facts. To help your child at home have them count by 7s to start with. (Our math series doesn't do the multiplication facts in order.) Then help them practice the fact cards they will be coming home with.

In Reading we will be taking our first Theme Test. This is a test over everything we have learned so far. It is a lot to remember, but we will review with them before the test.

English is a big change for the class this year. They have gone from working in workbooks last year to using a textbook this year. They also need to copy many sentences in English. This too, is new and sometimes hard to copy everything correctly.

Social Studies has been a lot of map skills so far. They are almost done with this section and will be taking a test.

Science has been a lot of discussion on living things and how they respond, develop and reproduce. We just finished this section and will soon be moving on.

All the students have been enjoying taking Accelerated Reader tests on the computer. This year it seems like we are in constant competition with the 6th grade class for the honor of top points in school. (It is nice to have a large class that is able to keep up with the older kids.
